Summer has officially arrived, which means Mexico is buzzing with school vacations, festivals, rainy afternoon thunderstorms (depending on where you live), and visitors arriving from around the world. It’s a wonderful time to explore a part of Mexico you haven’t seen before—but it’s also the season to keep an eye on weather forecasts if you’re planning road trips.
As always, our goal is simple: bring you useful information that makes living in Mexico just a little easier…and maybe inspire your next weekend adventure.
đź“° Need to Know
One thing you’ll probably notice over the next few weeks is an increase in visitors in many parts of the country. Mexico continues to see record international tourism, and with the excitement surrounding the 2026 World Cup still fresh, many destinations are seeing a busy summer season.
If you’re flying domestically or heading to popular destinations, give yourself extra time at airports and on the highways.
If you’re expecting friends or family from abroad this summer, remind them to verify Mexico’s current entry requirements before traveling. Requirements vary by nationality, and it’s always best to check official government sources before booking flights.
🌊 City Spotlight: Loreto, Baja California Sur
Sometimes the best places in Mexico are the ones that don’t try so hard.
Loreto sits quietly along the Sea of Cortez and feels like Baja before the crowds arrived. Colorful colonial streets, a peaceful malecĂłn, excellent seafood, and some of the best kayaking and snorkeling in the country make it a favorite among travelers looking for a slower pace.
If you’ve already visited Cabo or La Paz, consider putting Loreto on your list. The surrounding marine park is home to dolphins, sea lions, blue whales (seasonally), and crystal-clear water that Jacques Cousteau famously called “the Aquarium of the World.”
It’s one of those places where people often arrive for a weekend…and start browsing real estate before they leave.
🌮 Food of the Week: Chocolate Clams
Don’t let the name fool you.
Chocolate clams aren’t sweet—they’re a prized seafood delicacy found in the waters around Baja California Sur. They’re typically served grilled over mesquite with garlic butter, lime, and just a touch of sea salt.
If you ever visit Loreto, this is one local specialty worth ordering.
đź’ˇ Mexico Living Tip
Rainy season has arrived in much of central and southern Mexico.
If you’re driving, slow down more than you think you need to. Many roads become surprisingly slick during the first 20–30 minutes of rainfall because oil and dust accumulate during the dry season.
Also remember that potholes can hide under standing water, so giving yourself a little extra following distance can save both your suspension and your nerves.
🏥 Health & Insurance Highlight
If you’re an expat who regularly travels back to your home country—or likes to explore other countries while living in Mexico—make sure you understand exactly where your health insurance works.
Many people assume they have worldwide coverage only to discover there are exclusions, deductibles, or emergency-only benefits once they’re outside Mexico. Spending a few minutes reviewing your policy before your next trip is much easier than sorting it out from a hospital bed.
