Settle In. Branch Out.
👋 Hello MexicoFlow friends!
Whether you’re already living in Mexico, planning your move, or simply dreaming about your next visit, welcome back. This week we’re slowing things down a bit and focusing on one of the things that makes Mexico so rewarding—the places, traditions, and everyday experiences that often go unnoticed.
Let’s dive in.
🏙️ City Spotlight: Real de Catorce, San Luis Potosí
Most visitors to Mexico know San Miguel de Allende, Puerto Vallarta, or Mérida. But tucked high in the mountains of San Luis Potosí is one of the country’s most fascinating Pueblo Mágicos: Real de Catorce.
Once a booming silver mining town, today it’s a peaceful destination filled with cobblestone streets, old churches, mountain views, horseback riders, artists, and a pace of life that feels frozen in time. Getting there is part of the adventure—you’ll drive through the famous Ogarrio Tunnel before emerging into one of Mexico’s most unique mountain communities.
If you’re looking for a weekend road trip that feels completely different from the beach resorts, Real de Catorce deserves a spot on your travel list.
🌮 Taste of the Region: Enchiladas Potosinas
Every region of Mexico has dishes that locals grow up eating, and San Luis Potosí is famous for Enchiladas Potosinas.
Unlike traditional enchiladas, the chile is mixed directly into the corn masa before the tortillas are made, giving them their distinctive reddish color and rich flavor. They’re commonly filled with cheese and served with beans, avocado, onions, crema, and fresh salsa.
It’s comfort food with generations of history behind it.
💡 Mexico Living Tip
One of the easiest ways to enjoy Mexico more is to become a regular somewhere.
Whether it’s your neighborhood café, local produce stand, bakery, or gym, showing up consistently builds relationships. Before long you’ll be greeted by name, hear about local events before they’re advertised, and experience a side of Mexico that most tourists never see.
Sometimes the best travel experiences begin simply by becoming a familiar face.
🩺 Health & Insurance Corner
Healthcare in Mexico continues to surprise many newcomers—not just because of affordability, but because of accessibility.
Private hospitals throughout the country often provide excellent care, shorter wait times, and physicians who have trained internationally.
If you’re living abroad, however, it’s worth reviewing your health insurance before you actually need it. Understanding what’s covered before an emergency can save both stress and money later.
If you’d like help comparing international health insurance options, Brett LaMar has helped expats navigate those decisions for years.

💎 Hidden Gem
This week we’re introducing something new.
If you ever find yourself near Querétaro, consider spending an afternoon in Bernal.
While many people stop only long enough to photograph Peña de Bernal, the real charm is wandering the colorful streets, visiting local candy shops, enjoying a long lunch in the plaza, and watching the town come alive in the evening as families gather outside.
Sometimes the best memories come from slowing down rather than checking another attraction off a list.
😊 Mexico Moment
One of the greatest gifts Mexico offers isn’t a destination—it’s a different rhythm.
People linger over coffee.
Lunch is something to enjoy, not rush.
Neighbors stop to chat.
Families gather in the plaza after sunset.
For many expats, adapting to this slower pace becomes one of the biggest lifestyle improvements they never expected.
